  • Like Mary Mint, I too have opened an account with Chase. Very pleased with how it works  and the cashback you get using  the card. But like Mary, I’m hesitant to transfer my savings. Yes I know it’s protected but with anything new it can still be a bit scary. So I’m going to transfer some money and see how it goes. Spent around £700 this month and got about £35 in cashback - vety good 👍 Will still stay with my current account - First Direct as their customer service is so good. Was recently scammed on Whatsapp and got the money back in 2 weeks. But can’t hurt to spread the eggs.

Are you sure you got £35 cashback from a £700 spend this month? As that would be 5% cashback. If yes, please share how you managed to achieve this.

The cash back is 1% so spending £700 on your debit card will only earn you £7.00 which will show as Rewards on the Home Screen of the app. You will need to swipe down to see this.

Only a Chase customer for a few days, but it all seems impressive.

I’m impressed that if you find yourself in a moment of panic re scam you can it appears immediately freeze a card within the app and then contact Chase.  It seems like a new account is promptly opened that gives you access, but I haven’t tried it.

The only frustration encountered so far is that I miss the “trusted site” option that I have with Amex, so every online supermarket transaction using the Chase debit caed number needs approval via the app.  That is a bit monotonous.

I opened an account for the splendid savings rate but have found it takes 4 days to get a response via their
messaging service (the app says it takes minutes) and even then the response was completely inadequate and straight from FAQs. Calling on their 0800 number (only one of the numbers works) is useless as not picked up in 40 minutes - I gave up. The App is a mess - click a freephone number and it tries to dial two numbers so fails. “Send a link to a friend and both earn £20 immediately when the friend adds money” - simply fails. No money after 3 weeks.
Too few staff, a poorly designed app and malfunctioning systems - not a great start.

What was your question to Chase? Perhaps someone here can answer it.

The Refer A Friend worked perfectly for me and those I referred. Where a person already had already added money to their account, the referral money was credited in seconds. In others, the money was added as soon as the referred person deposited their money. You are the first who says it fails. The referral codes are case sensitive - is that where you went wrong?

Having held me Chase current account since last September, and the savings account since March, I wouldn't agree that the app is badly designed. IMO, the user interface is very intuitive and uncluttered, and the functionality is great - e.g. the near instant crediting of cashback, the notifications for payments made, the automatic reminders for forthcoming payments, the SO and DD functionality on the savings account, the optimum exchange rates when using the card abroad and so on. Yes, they had a massive influx of new customers recently because of the referral offer, and this has impacted their CS responsiveness. I found you still can get through on the phone if you have a pressing issue, even if it tests your patience. This can happen at other banks, too.

Hi.  I have just opened a new bank account and savings account with Chase as the savings interest rate seems to be much better than elsewhere however, I am loathe to transfer my savings to them as I don't know the bank.  Had it been Barclays or HSBC I wouldn't be worried.  Any advice please?  Thanks
If you are at all unsure, don't.

If you have a search on this forum you will find lots of opinions and information about Chase.

They are a huge American bank only recently joining the UK marketplace and due to what I suspect drew you to them in the first place, their rates. Which will have led to a fairly hefty demand on their resources.

Like any organisation, they can only recruit staff based on what they predict will happen and they possibly didn't predict this level of demand, so it's understandable they are harder to contact at times, not great for the customer but I imagine recruiting bank staff is not as fast a process as in lesser regulated industries so I'm sure over time a balance will be reached.

Personally, I've always banked where I can walk in and speak to a person, that hasn't done me any favours, but even after Northern Rock, it's still reassuring.

Apps can behave differently across devices, so for me, you will always get mixed reviews as no app developer can fully test their apps on every flavour of every platform.

The way banks are closing all the branches no one will be able to walk in.
Let alone speak to a real person.

I downloaded the app to my phone last night and did all the relevant things and I have been put into a "waiting room " and have been there ever since Anyone els have this problem ??

  • Hundreds, possibly thousands, are in that waiting room. Must be a huge place lol.

You'll see plenty of references to it on the various, and multiple, Chase threads.

Hopefully, you'll move to the next phase soon.
