MOT Advisory
Comments

All drivers should be checking the basics, including the tyres, on their cars every time they use it. I believe that it is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the vehicle they are using is roadworthy. An MOT is just proof that the car was deemed roadworthy at that point in time.shiraz99 said:At the end of the day it's simply an advisory so just keep an eye on it and see what they look like in 12mths time.1 -
Thanks guys. We'll keep an eye on them and will look to replace at the right time.

You were advised on an MOT that your tyres were cracking. You’ve then come online with pictures that don’t actually show the relevant part of the tyre to ask if said diagnosis was correct. You can look at the tyres yourself and see if they are cracking, no idea why you’d come online to do so.
You could also take it to another garage for a view if you really can’t use your own eyes to see the cracks.
I’ve no idea what is going on here. If someone is quoted for a repair it’s reasonable to ask if quote is fair or if work is likely to be essential. But you don’t really need to ask online if tyre cracking is real given you can self inspect.
There is an old adage with cars which I think still applies. Never mess with tyres and brakes. They are the only real accident avoidance systems cars have. If your tyre blows on the motorway you will not exactly be in a place to necessarily stay safe.
So check your tyres. If you really are unsure ask another garage. But the advisory is there for your information. It’s not a joke.0 -
Someone posted images earlier ... I thought they were extracts from my images but it seems I was mistaken.
I created this post to gain advice and opinions - which I have received and gratefully take on board. That was the purpose of this thread.
I really don't understand your hostility. (And yes - your post does come across as hostile. That may not have been your intent, but that's how I perceive it).

Its not hostility it’s simply asking what opinion you actually need. You can look at your tyres, are they cracking? If not then the discussion on here is why are Arnold Clark adding misleading advisories. If they are then you’ve been appropriately advised.Jenni_D said:Someone posted images earlier ... The images you took don’t actually show the tyre surface, just the side. And that means it’s impossible to say. And even then it won’t beat a proper look yourself.
I assume you’ve looked to see if they are cracking?0 -
Orally AC referred to the sidewalls perishing, albeit the MOT category isn't that specific. (Apologies if that wasn't clear in my OP). That's what prompted me to create this thread and link the photos that I did.
We've not gone and looked in detail as yet - the car hasn't been used since we got home from the MOT, and it has been "persisting" down outside since then - we'll check better in more favourable conditions.
The hostility is in the tone rather than the content - there are ways and means of getting a point across.
(I appreciate that the written word can be open to interpretation).

An advisory isn't a fail and therefore doesn't make the car unroadworthy which is why I said it's worth just keeping an eye on it but certainly not an urgent fix.olgadapolga said:

Cracked tyres are an urgent fix. You don’t know when you might have a blow out. So yes if the tyres are cracked in multiple places they need replacing. There are absolutely loads of things that wouldn’t constitute an MOT fail but shouldn’t be left for safety reasons.shiraz99 said:

Tyre cracking seems to be a common thing now, I had it on our Fiesta at the last MOT.
Someone else had it recently too:

Why do tyres fall apart so quickly now? Never used to be heard of.1
