Broadband upload speeds

Options
We have been streaming onto Facebook live since lockdown, around once a month. This Sunday the stream was very poor - Audio OK but Video frame rate was excessively low.
Tests show that the upload rate on our broadband has dropped to around 1-2 Mb/s, and it needs to be around 10.
My package quotes average 8-10Mb/s, which we used to get, but no guarantee, unlike download rates.

Call me a cynic, but my contract is up for renewal in a month, so maybe they're encouraging me to upgrade.
But I'd like some knowledgeable opinions - Is it more likely to be a fault? Would moving to another BT-based supplier make any difference?

Average 8-10Mbps may be your download quoted rate, not your upload.  It would be useful to know what supplier/package you are on and run a fast.com test to see what it records (do this when no other devices are using the connection).

Make sure you are using a wired connection for any streaming to eliminate wireless / capacity issues and prioritise your streaming devices using QoS if your router supports this.  Check the resolution you are streaming at hasn't changed; 720p should be more than sufficient unless you are showing things with lots of detail.

Moving suppliers is unlikely to fix it if you can't rule out other possible issues first.

I take it you have done the basics like re-booting the router (not multiple times as that can actually set you into a slower speed which can take a few weeks to recover).

If you log into your router, what does it say the DSL line status and downstream and upstream speeds are?

They will not be purposely slowing down your speeds because you are close to renewal.

No, it is upload, Download is circa 35Mb/s.
I've checked this on a wired connection.

I'm on an "unlimited Fibre" package. We turn off all unnecessary devices when streaming.

I'll reboot the route and have a look at the other suggestions later.
