Being charged way over deal

Options

I'm super confused I thought that locking into a cheap deal would keep me from getting into debt and I believe that this was wrong British Gas of told me that my direct debit is different to my and my usage is super high yet we don't have any top of the range equipment we don't have Alexa as we don't have PlayStations we don't have Nintendo's we have One television in the house and energy saving equipment everywhere are yet we we thousands of pounds in debt at the end of this price plan

At the moment I'm on exclusive energy september 23

Fixed

549.60 gas elec 669.88 =£1,219.48year

monthly £101.63

But British Gas First wonted £160 a month ×12 =1,920 that's £700 more  and then they won't

£271.97 × 12= £3.263 a year  I have just been told that I am fixed on the tariff but my direct debits isn't and they've told me that I'm not paying enough what I meant to do I thought that I was looking into a deal which was going to keep my payments down and keep me out of debt I have no idea ear that I will be paying more than the average user I only have one television which is energy efficient every light bulb in the house is energy-efficient all the appliances are energy efficient I have no way to pay this I cannot keep up with their demands

Maybe you are under the mistaken but common belief that your fixed deal is "All you can eat", like a phone contract, it is not, it means the unit price is fixed, if you use more energy you will have to pay for it

Ignoring cash figures, waht is you consumption in Kilo watts [Kw on your bill], how does this compare to your meter reading?

Have you given them readings or are they working off estimates?  Obviously you have to pay for the energy you use and if it's more than the estimate for the year then the DDs will need to go up.

Also - energy companies are pushing to get people to always be at least 2 months worth of DD in credit years round.  You need to push back and say no.  When I've been harrassed about this in the past I've let them know that I'm aware I'm talking to them on a recorded line and that I will agree to catch up the account if it goes into debit.

Check your bills, how many kWh does it say you have used over the past year for gas and electric?

Don't focus on Alexas and TVs. The big ticket items are central heating, hot water, oven, washing machine, and dryer.

What's the balance on your account? If your account has a negative balance, the direct debit isn't covering your usage so they will increase it.

    Please give the following information

    rate electricity
    rate gas
    standing charge electricity
    standing charge gas
how much gas have you used in the last 12 months
how much electricity have you used in the last 12 months

By how much are you currently  in debt (or credit)
Have you submitted meter readings or are the requests based on estimated use?

You are not fixed on a deal, or even a direct debit order. The fix is just what you pay for a KWh electricity or gas, and the direct debit is what you are paying what you hopefully need to pay for the bill you will receive.

The £549.60 on that screenshot (and in your opening post) is the example price if you use exactly 12000kWh of gas in a year. It's not likely that you will use exactly that amount, and so your gas bill will be higher or lower than that.
What is your actual annual gas usage?
    And the same for electricity?

    OK, you're a higher-than-average electricity user but a lower-than-average gas user.
You've given details of your gas tariff; do you have the same info for electricity?
In my region, Exclusive Energy September 2023 is 20.47p/kWh and 24.306p/day for electricity.
Using your gas tariff and my electric one, I make your annual bill to be £1245/yr, £104/month.
    But British Gas First wonted £160 a month ×12 =1,920 that's £700 more  and then they won't £271.97 × 12= £3.263 a year
That does seem a bit high!

That's what you have actually used in the last year? Or since September 21 when you started the tariff?
    What is the 10810?

Edit .... On the plus side you got a super cheap tariff for the next 18 months. Plenty of time to learn to cut back, as when your tariff finishes you'll be paying over double, probably closer to triple ..

If you have the meter readings for gas and electricity when you took the tariff on and your meter readings from say today, you'll get an answer back telling you how much your bill be give or take £10
