Where did the OP state he/she requested the payment to be made via CHAPS?user1977 said:
What makes you say that? It was the OP who asked them to send funds by CHAPS to a bank account which doesn't accept CHAPS payments.diego_94 said:You need to lean on your solicitor to get this sorted, its their mistake after all. With all these new bank online/digital banks becoming available I can see this happening more and more.2 -
The solicitor will offer a choice. CHAPS or cheque. The CHAPS service is undertaken by the solicitors bankers with the details provided to them.steve866 said:

I would write to the Times Money column, and get a journalist on it. You'll likely get the problem sorted quickly and compensation. It's a problem of interest to their other readers and you've already tried to resolve it with no avail - and it's been 2 weeks.3

Where did the OP say that the problem was the solicitor not clarifying the method of transfer? CHAPS would be the normal method for large sums, it would be unlikely the solicitor would not have mentioned it would be a CHAPS transfer (especially as they'd be charging for it).steve866 said:

Alternatively the Telegraph has a similar column. Chase will hate the publicity and suddenly find the moneypropertyhunter said:I would write to the Times Money column, and get a journalist on it. I never said the OP blamed the solicitor, however you specially said the OP asked the solicitor to send the funds via CHAPS. Whilst I agree the most likely case is an easy to make mistake by the OP (assuming his bank accepts CHAPS), that might not be the case.user1977 said:

I am currently remortgaging and Enact are handling the convayencing. The remortgage includes releasing equity and this is the only wording I can find on the paperwork:
”For every electronic money transfer we make to you, we charge a fee of £35 plus VAT. The fees will be deducted from the sum due to you, and this fee includes any charges made by our bank. If you do not complete your account details any surplus funds will be sent to you by cheque. It is your responsibility to ensure the bank details provided accept an electronic money transfer.”
As far as I’m aware electronic money transfer is a generic term and doesn’t relate to CHAPS?0 -
Normally when there is a surplus you are asked by your solicitor how you want paying . when your solicitor asked for acc details then it would be prudent to expect monies would be sent via chaps .492800 said:
Hmm. Nope. I just supplied a bank account number as requested. I didn't ask for it to be sent via any specific method.user1977 said:

When you were asked to send your acc number did you ask why they needed it & that your preferred account does not accept electronic transfer1 -
Do you know what CHAPS stands for and that it is actually a Company in it's own right?steve866 said:user1977 said:
