NatWest Current Account Application

Just applied for a Natwest Select Account and switching as part of it for the incentive, at the end of the application it says they need to run extra checks and will contact me in due course? Every other experience I've had opening an account elsewhere has resulted in the account instantly being opened so what's going on here? Is this some sort of precursor for me being rejected for some reason?

It’s only a thought, but I have found some banks’ systems a bit flakey on a Sunday.

I recently applied for an RBS (part of the same banking group) account and I too got this at the end of the application.

After a few days they send me an email asking me to upload a picture of a photo ID, and asked me to e-sign a document. After I submitted that, the next day the account was open.

It was all a bit clunky when I opended an account too - I got an email the next day with a link to some id service that I had to send a photo of my driving license too, and it was openeded some time after that. Not like Starling where it was all open in 10 minutes :)

That has just reminded me that when I opened an RBS account a year or so back, I had to upload ID stuff via DigiDocs.

This was quite quick (minutes, if I recall correctly) as I had applied on a working day.

I opened my NatWest account 50 years ago, and 10 other bank accounts in the last 8 years.

The RBS one is the first and only one that required "further verification".

Same here, a couple of years back. A while later, they sent me an email to say unfortunately they couldn't offer me an account. Ah well, I thought, you win some, you lose some. Then about a week later, my debit card and PIN arrived , and I have happily been using my RBS account ever since.

Still waiting to hear anything from them. I can't believe it takes them several days to open a bank account for someone in this day and age,  I wasn't staying anyway but it's not a great first impression.  They better contact me and open it by Thursday otherwise I think I might lose out on the bonus.

I got an e-mail from them tonight to send ID documents ect, which I did, but then they sent another e-mail after that to inform me those now need checking which will take another 3 - 5 days!?  Does it seriously take over a week to open an account with NatWest? This seems absurd.

They sent me the email saying 3-5 days after I submitted my ID, however the account was opened next day.

Similar experience with NatWest a few years ago, except their system kept rejecting my Id uploads, I had to go into a branch with Id, opened that day & switched out again soon after I got the incentive 😂
