Future of petrol stations.

Was thinking yesterday while filling up at Morrisons, if the govt do what they are proposing and ban new petrol / diesel cars from 2030, how long beyond that are petrol stations going to be open for? I understand secondhand fuel cars will be around for some time after that date but the price of them will go though the roof so more and more will move to electric vehicles, especially with govt incentives to go electric. The time will come when there isn’t a demand for petrol and diesel. Maybe just for commercial vehicles.
There must be thousands of people in employment in petrol stations that will be out of work one day when they close.

They'll still be there serving customers waiting for their EVs to charge with coffee, crisps, special offer gloves, torches and other tat. I wouldn't worry about them.Deleted_User said:Was thinking yesterday while filling up at Morrisons, if the govt do what they are proposing and ban new petrol / diesel cars from 2030, how long beyond that are petrol stations going to be open for? The future is not battery powered electric cars at least not for everyone as there us not enough resources for that, copper, nickel, lithium, cobalt.
The japanese see hydrogen as the future (74% of the universe is hydrogen) others are looking at biofuels.3 -
I suspect that unless the Govt. legislate against fuel sales, petrol vehicles will still be going in 2045 . Long after I've shuffled off this mortal coil. !!
Furthermore , with the Govt's record on deadlines I can see 2030 going back a few years !!3 -
Its the economics which will drive this. Yes, there will be historic/classic ICE vehicles on the road for a long time to come, but using them for the daily commute/runabout will become a rich person's choice. The end of ICE on the road will look similar to the end of Leaded/LRP, including more conversions as the cost and scarcity of the fuel increases.brewerdave said:I suspect that unless the Govt. legislate against fuel sales, petrol vehicles will still be going in 2045 . But this is global, or at least European. I would expect manufacturers to bail out of ICE by or before the deadline because of the costs of a diminishing volume of production, coupled with bad PR for continuing to produce 'dirty' cars. It's also possible that second-hand ICE supply in the UK dries up with remaining roadworthy vehicles being sought after (i.e. highly valued) by countries where road fuel remains available and cheap, but the supply of new ICE vehicles drops off as global manufacturers pull out.Similar things have happened with construction and agricultural plant - export buyers have been willing to pay more for stuff than the home market will bear.0 -
There will be an industry of people who deliver petrol/diesel the same as we have now with propane for our bbq.
And there will be EV stations as other people have suggested as there's no infrastructure to enable everyone to charge their EVs at home.

There are companies out there today that will do an EV conversion on just about any historic/classic vehicle. Still a rich person's toy - Range isn't great with some of the conversions (but getting better), and you lose the heart & character of the vehicle.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Where are all the holidaymakers going to recharge their vehicles when travelling in the UK every year, not least Devon and Cornwall?Deleted_User said:Was thinking yesterday while filling up at Morrisons, if the govt do what they are proposing and ban new petrol / diesel cars from 2030, how long beyond that are petrol stations going to be open for?1 -
See reviews of EV cars and see what happens to the range when towing, its like driving with a hole in your petrol tank.Thrugelmir said:

Where's Tesla's car for the man in the street. Premium models have a limited market, ultimately sales will plateau.Benny2020 said:
