Is there a template of the cost of running a house anywhere?

Options
Hi all,
My OH and I are planning to buy a house in 2008 or 2009. We want to get our serious savings heads on this year, no more wild holidays half way across the world, we're being good and saving up big time - bigger the deposit, obviously the lower the mortgage.

I know there is the great budget thing that Martin has - but my problem is, I have no idea about average costs of council tax, home insurance, etc. literally no idea how much anything costs like that. Ideally we'd like at least an estimate of all the things that should be entered into the budgeter so that we know roughly what figures we're dealing with.

Is there anything like this on the site or can anyone give me a kind of SOA (state of affairs) or rough costs on how much they have to pay out on their home and all their bills etc.

Many thanks for any help :T

Every house is different, so that'd be hard to work out.
    And everybody's lifestyle is different.

e.g. council tax might be £45 to £145
You might have gas and want gas boiler cover; might be electric only
Might have Sky, or cable, or cable + loads more, or just a TV
House insurance will depend on the location/size of the house and value of your contents which might vary by thousands
Water could be on a meter and there's nothing you can do about it, or on a meter but you love your 20 minute power showers.

As a rough ballpark, until you get closer to a real figure, I'd say put down £250/month.

    For a 1-bed, 1 person, £175
So £250 is a good safe ball park
