Help, got car out of garage to take for service and MOT and front right tyre was totally flat, pumped it up and drove it to the garage. Just checked the online MOT site and it's passed but showing:

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Nearside Front Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated (6.1.7 (g) (i))

Is this major work and very costly? Garage hasn't informed me yet.

2011 Meriva B 1.7 CDTi automatic Diesel.

Thanks :(:'(

The right tyre is the offside (unless you are facing backwards- convention for "left" & "right" is when you are sitting in the car facing forwards- (unless you are talking about the engine, when they swap over as you are facing backwards as you look at it.....)

Hence we try to avoid confusion with  "nearside" = the side nearest the kerb & "offside" = nearest the centre of the road ( in the UK......)

    But co-incidence anyway.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Oops, thanks for that! ;) I assumed as car was slightly leaning to the right it was the right side thingy that had worn / broken combined with a right hand side flat front tyre so lower on the right side!) or offside

Garage just phoned, they have serviced the car oil, oil filter, etc but not fixed this "Nearside Front Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot" as they didn't have time, but I can book it in next week for repair. They also didn't have time to fix my puncture, there is a nail in it, but they pumped it up and thought I'd take it elsewhere to get repaired, not a new tyre needed. So off to collect it soon, but still need a new tyre ASAP and this boot fixing :(

And of course extra labour when rebooked in for fixing the boot thingy too (part, labour then VAT) :(

Tyre repairs are very cheap, why buy a new tyre?

Apologies, I meant NOT a new tyre needed but need it repairing ASAP.

My garage told me there is definitely a nail in it.

So I have booked in a free tyre safety check at a local garage and the website says if they can repair it, they will charge £25.

It's already had a tyre safety check, during the MOT inspection.

I'm sure I had a drive shaft replaced under a warrnaty some years ago and it was about £500 back then.  Only the garage can really quote you as all have different labour rates. Cost will depend on if it's just the boots or the driveshaft.

Yup. As long as the puncture is within the central 75% of the tyre tread then those tar string thingies work very well. :)

@General_query, if the driveshaft/ CV joint is sound fit a new gaiter, if your not confident to do this yourself you can get universal ones....https://www.amazon.co.uk/CVS18-Universal-Constant-Velocity-Replacement/dp/B0080DLLIY

    Job done.
