Although it is presumably of interest to know whether a a contactless card has, or has not, been cloned, or whether some technical problem has occcured.

Of course, but my understanding is that the level of technical transaction authorisation detail available to the bank would be sufficient to determine what's happened, without needing dialogue with the retailers.
