Bed bug compensation

Hi all, my husband and I went for a 7 night holiday (16th-23rd March 2022) to Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt, what we thought started out as mosquito bites (I've had these before) turned out to be bed bug bites, we didn't know they were bed bug bites until it was pointed out to us by another guest at the hotel, I had over 150 bites, mainly on my left foot and hand and my husband had a few on his feet.  I had a reaction to to the bites, my feet swelled up so that I couldn't put shoes on or walk very far and the pain was horrific, I spent nearly all night on day 3 back and forth to the shower trying to cool them down, I couldn't sit out in the sun etc, my husband had to buy topical cream and antihistamines from the pharmacy  and I had to double dose the tablets and the cream didn't work, we ended up putting aloe vera gel on them. The hotel did swap us rooms but by then our holiday was ruined, I was afraid to get in the bed at night in case of more bites and we only had two actual days where I could sit in the sun.
I have photos of both myself and husband's feet and the bed.  We traveled with Love Holidays and the hotel had a 4 star cleanliness rating.

I wondered if anyone knew how we would go about claiming compensation for the bites and the hell we went through please?

Thanks

Did you contact Love Holidays whilst you were away? Love Holidays normally sell multi-contract holidays which are not the same as a traditional package holiday, your contract for the accommodation is with the hotel, not Love Holidays which makes things doubly difficult. If you name the hotel, others might be able to support your claim, but unless the hotel is part of an international chain, you may have problems making a claim. Love Holidays may offer to help you, but that may be as far as they will go.
  • Did you get medical treatment whilst in Egypt ?
It's difficult to make retrospective claims for illness without having done so.

Could be bed bugs but very strange to be isolated to your feet and hand. I think you would notice the bite marks and swellings more on your torso and legs.

Did you spend much time on the beach?  Or around animals like petting cats? Could they be sand fly bites or dare I say flea bites?

Bed bugs bite your whole body while you sleep.
Hand and foot only would be something else. Fleas, other biting bugs.
Also as the swelling was so bad, it seems to signal something other than bed bugs.
I have travelled round the world for decades in the past and I have been bitten by so many things, but bed bugs mainly are torso and legs.

I think you will struggle for compensation.
They swapped rooms for you, so they showed they were trying to help.
Plus the fact it doesn't seem to be bed bugs, not sure they will give you any money.
Did you see a doctor? If you don't have a doctor saying it is bed bugs, and the fact they moved rooms, I don't think you will get compo.

I could be wrong, but that is my personal opinion.

Sorry you had a bad experience.
