Put one in today as well - just in case the suppliers website throws a wobbly at 5 minutes to midnight !
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

It's not always worth doing a meter tomorrow.

In my case I just checked, and their estimate on their last bill is already way over what my actual meter reading is, so they will charge me the cheap rate for energy I haven't used yet.

When they do eventually get an accurate reading they can readjust the estimated billing at the point of the change.

I can certainly see it being a devil of a job to get meter readings accepted tomorrow as it's going to be crazy busy. I'll be taking photos of both our meters at the point of reading so I have that "proof" down the line if needed, and will also be entering the readings into the app I use as usual.

I don't have smart meters, but if I did even if I wasn't planning to submit readings tomorrow, I'd certainly be checking and noting what the readings are, just in case there was some form of "technical error" that meant an estimated reading being used...

I can't get through to anybody. British Gas site has "technical problems". Eon doesn't allow me to set up an online account, doesn't reply to any email or answer the phone. How the hell does anybody get in touch with these people?

And it will if everybody in the country decides they absolutely have to send in a meter reading on the dot of midnight (is that midnight GMT or BST?).

In reality, it doesn't matter much.  When energy companies change their prices, they look at the previous rreading before the change, and the next one after.  They then apportion the charges according to how many days before and after the price change the meter readings were.  It's likely to work out pretty accurate if your readings aren't ridiculously long apart.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
