Locking the understair cupboard - narrow trim?

We used one of them. They're pretty easy to install as the mortice in the door can just be drilled, though if you don't have the right size drill bit you probably end up spending more on that that than on the rack bolt thing. It does need a little bit of chisel work to cut the faceplate into the edge of the door, but it's much easier than you think! If you score round the edge with a sharp knife first then you can't really go wrong.*Forwandert said:cpbackhouse said:A little bit more work to fit but we've had something like this on an under-stairs cupboard before.Looked neat and was nice and secure.
This is exactly what I thought would be best when I saw the initial picture.

Drills...chisels...accuracy... and then you need to insert the key every time you want to grab a coat. And relock it afterwards. And keep the key somewhere safe.

True, it's probably a bit inconvenient if you need to access the cupboard frequently, e.g. for coat storage. That said, as long as the child can't reach the lock you can make it more convenient by using a knob in place of the key - this sort of thing:Bendy_House said:Drills...chisels...accuracy... and then you need to insert the key every time you want to grab a coat. And relock it afterwards. This is the view from the inside, I think the child lock thing will go over the door surround and hook over it.
