Surely a simple hook and eye mounted out of reach would do?

No problem with architrave width then.
  • A little bit more work to fit but we've had something like this on an under-stairs cupboard before.
Looked neat and was nice and secure.

Easy to fit, little precision required, invisible from the outside, you can unlatch it in a second but little fellow would struggle to work out it's location and be able to press down on it at the right moment: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cupboard-Invisible-Children-Cabinets-Adhesive/dp/B07GYH4X5H?th=1
(Door opens an inch or so and then stops dead. Looking down at the door from above, you will see where the latch is in the gap, and just press down on it to allow the door to open fully.)

Well I'm blown away with the level of responses! Many thanks everyone.

I'm liking the idea of the sashlock, but I need to look into exactly what you guys mean, and the last child lock suggestion could be good too.

More pics, I think showing that locking the consumer units isn't going to work sadly, but hey, open to ideas!

Would a simple hook and eye latch, fixed up high, do the trick ?   This sort of thing.

Ah, that's quite a tall door then? And your child cannot reach anywhere near its top? In which case the simplest and least intrusive method is, I think, the cupboard lock I linked to. This could be positioned either along the top (inside) the door where you'd look down on it, or even on the side (again inside) as long as it's beyond his reach. That would be cheap, simple, secure, and out of sight.
Or, have a handyman build a cover/box over the consumer unit and fit a locking door to that.
But the first idea is by far the quickest and easiest, totally DIYable, and keeps the little tike fully out of the cupboard...

The door isn't that tall actually! It's just quite narrow so the picture gives the ilusion of looking bigger.

Interesting, I could build a plu box perhaps with a latch and combination lock. But, in reality eith a while house to paint my wife may prefer a quicker fix.

And just this morning power was out again, not only the on off switch but both switches for the shed! Little rascall!

I like the cupboard one but I need to have a look and see how I think it could work

Ah, I thought that was a room thermostat on the wall, which would imply the door was more than 1.5m tall.
Seriously, that cupboard door catch is a doddle to fit - 4 screws, no cutting, no drilling, the easiest of all the solutions. You may have to lock yourself in the cupboard to work out the best position for it, tho'...

This is exactly what I thought would be best when I saw the initial picture.
