Thank you very much for your further replies, i found them very useful and important. I truly appreciate it and for your time replying.
coastline - reviewing what the analysts think is important i agree. I also understand that growth stocks tend to be valued higher, some value stocks can be undervalued for instance. The reason i asked alot about trying to predict future earnings of a company was to try and make an investment more certain, but its clear that no investment is certain, you can only try your best to do as much research as possible.
adindas - finding if a company is under or over valued and then comparing the p/e with their peers and finding the industry average, i agree that is wonderful advice. One of many tools that i will incorporate into my investing checklist, i truly appreciate you sharing.
Can i kindly please ask lastly if anyone picks stocks individually, rather than invest in an Index, do you have any new ones you have invested in recently you would kindly share? Further or any stocks that are very interesting or appear to have good growth potential to kindly help me start some research on some stocks and industries. Of course i will be doing my own due diligence on them. Thank you very much i appreciate your time.

Took a punt on Rolls-Royce RR.L recently at 98p as a recovery stock .See how it goes apart from that I tend to trade tracker ETF's these days such ISF.L VUSA.L VEVE.L. I use Tech Analysis and lower indicators but that's another story.robertbanking said:

At the end of the day if you have a long investment widow say 20-40 years then I'd be placing everything into tax wrappers such as ISA's SIPP's etc. Stock picking should only be a small part of your portfolio unless you're experienced. Looking back and starting all over again at the equity part of a portfolio I'd be having the bulk of my investments in a global tracker. Say 70-80% . Then a few funds alongside. The rest in a few shares maybe the fun bit. Good luck.0 -
