Have you quoted a previous post and then typed inside the quote box. If so the system can’t recognise that you have added anything - just sees it all as a quote and that doesn’t count towards the character count.

If that is what has happened you need to get your comments outside the quote.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

As above you may be typing in the grey box where the quote is rather than in the white space underneath. The post may well be saved in your Drafts. If so delete it then start again by either quoting and making sure you don't click on the grey area and write below the grey box or just writing a stand alone comment (as opposed to quoting).

FYI ... what I do if I know I want to quote is hit <enter> 3x, then up arrow x2, quote the comment and up arrow or down arrow as required so I am outside the quote box. I then write my comment of 9 characters or more before posting. (I delete extraneous new lines before posting if I remember).

I have, as others have said, previously experienced typing in the box and not being able to get the cursor outside, and not typing enough characters (like "agreed").

If, having clicked on 'quote' you then click on the '< / >' symbol which is the rightmost editting symbol at the top of your draft post, you'll see the quote shown with all the mark-up language displayed, Move your cursor right to the end of the post (if it isn't there already) and you should be able to insert a blank line or two by hitting enter and then simply type your response.

Alternatively, if you are really struggling, then don't use the 'quote' option at all - simply type your text into the box at the bottom of the thread and then just click on 'post comment'. you can make a reference to the particular point or poster you are referring to in your own text (or just cut and paste their words and include it in yours with an indication that it;s a quote).

Basically you need to get rid of any draft posts. Once you do that you will be able to reply in the normal way.

This has caught a lot of people out 👍
