Rights re parts.

Hi, I bought an e bike from Halfords in 2018. The original battery has gone to battery heaven. I ordered a replacement from Halfords which was a dud, so I ordered another, which was also a dud! The guys at Halfords checked them both. I’ve just ordered a 3rd. If this arrives and doesn’t work what rights do I have? The bike is not fit for purpose without the battery, it’s far too heavy to use it without the power assist.
Does anyone know, do have any recourse?
thanks

After 4 years I doubt you have any 'rights' to claim anything against Halfords. I don't know if Trading Standards will be able/willing to advise.

Could a third party (and hopefully longer lasting) battery be fitted by a sensible independent bike shop?
If the first battery lasted 3 to 4 years than that is probably reasonable. If they have replaced / refunded the unacceptable replacements I doubt you have much further redress.
Batteries are, to an extent a consumable product. I don't know what the expected life of a bike battery of your type is? However it would depend very much on how much (or how little) use it has had, charging cycles etc etc.
Although I don't have an electric bike I do use other devices that take similar amount of power for the same general type of batteries. They do vary, considerably, even with "good" makes and sometimes several bought at the same time and treated in a similar way will have very different lifespans.

Thanks for the replies, I have no objection to paying for the battery. Its just that they seem unable to provide one that works. It’s a specific shape that fits into a frame.0

I this is a popular bike I would be surprised if there was not a source of "aftermarket" batteries made by somebody.1 -

Tested before fitment or put into bike and didn't work.
If put into bike that would suggest something within the bike.

When did "the guys at Halfords check them", before or after you tried to fit it? Are you going to Halfords to pick them up/have them fitted or are they getting sent to you?1

I’m ordering for click and collect. The first one I took home and tried it then took it back to the shop. The second one I asked them to test it before I picked it up. I’ve just read some reviews, it looks like I’m not the only one.0

So the second one you never even took out of the shop as they tested it there and it was dead? If the third one is faulty I would ask if they can get about ten sent to the shop in the hope that one might work.
I suppose you could always order ten and just not pick up the other 9.1 -
