Oh I like the sound of that!
Yes, I still want ideas. I suspect this saga isn't over ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If I found myself unexpectedly away from home comforts, I'd be desperate for my mirror and some tweezers! Or is that just me with a hairy chin? Btw - Have you looked into courier costs rather than how much Royal Mail charges. I sent several parcels up to Scotland from Yorkshire for teenage daughter who was studying there and it was cheaper to do that way.1

We're seeing them next weekend, and I have a growing pile of things to take: found a few books I think she might like (which reduces the need for BIL to run back and forth to the library), and was always planning to take her some aprons, NOT for hospital! She wanted one recently, and the only one they could find was probably intended as a workman's apron, very beige and far too long! Last time we saw them I took the hem up, but I then remembered I still had my mother's aprons, which are FAR more cheerful, so they're in the pile. If for some reason we can't visit I shall definitely courier a package.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If you're still looking for suitable hand creams, L'Occitane do tiny tubes, ideal for handbag, toilet bag or pocket. They often do them in sets and QVC often have them, like this:

Although the tubes are tiny, you only need a tiny amount and the formulations seem to be good for older skins, as long as your MIL can use fragranced products. As a guide, using one of these little tubes 2 times a day, they last about a week. I don't need to use them more than twice per day because they are very rich. L'Occitane do a lot of travel sizes of all their products. They're not cheap but I find the quality excellent. The little tins and bags that come with their travel collections are always pretty and useful afterwards too.1 -
One thing (among many, but I was dealing with a lot of internal things) I regretted not doing for my grandpa was sending him voice recordings - verbal letters or just reading through a book. While it wouldn't have been as good as a professional reading a book, a loved one's voice would likely be cherished in the lonely nights in a hospital, particularly with a long term stay.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Not sure if you're still gathering ideas for if/when she returns. Lush do a solid hand cream that's only £1.https://www.lush.com/uk/en/p/charity-pot-coin-hand-and-body-lotion/10g---hand?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8_qRBhCXARIsAE2AtRYQfrniS1cVGWkwRUEb0QEHwT8qYbLZL4WOR-gW7rA7BWNDGvy4y8caAjXaEALw_wcB
More expensive but larger there's also these. https://www.edinburghskincare.com/collections/solid-hand-cream-bars
Not sure if she'd find that concept too 'new fangled'?Downshifted
