Oil boiler grants

Hey guys, we’ve just moved into a new property and it has an old oil boiler. The boiler is over 20 years old and it’s costing us a lot of money to run.

Does anyone know if there is any oil boiler grants available to replace with a more efficient oil boiler?

I couldn't find any when we replaced our old oil boiler with a new oil boiler last year.

Our boiler was over 35 years old and guzzled oil for fun. The new one is using around 30% less oil with like for like heating and hot water settings. The new boiler has a published efficiency of 94.6%. The old one claimed to be 70.0% but I suspect it was lower in reality.

I am sure a small amount of the saving has come from a redesign of plumbing system. We now have motorised valves controlling the flow to the hot water and central heating circuits. Prior to this the system relied on thermal circulation for the hot water and the upstairs radiators used to warm up when heating the water even with the heating switched off. This no longer happens.

As an added bonus, the new boiler is an external model so it sits outside. No boiler noise in our kitchen and the whiff of oil has gone.

There is a new grant scheme which starts on the 1st April for renewable heat source systems, such as Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pumps. I think it will pay £5000 towards the cost of installation, but I am not sure what hoops you have to jump through to qualify. I looked into ASHP last year when much higher grants were available, but in my case it just wasn't cost effective either from an installation cost or ongoing running cost when compared to the price of oil.
Might be worth looking into though if you haven't consider ASHP/GSHP systems already.
