Replacement Kitchen work top....where to begin.

If I make a request for a joiner via online add.
Do I choose a worktop I like from b+q etc and request tradesman to make measurements.
What else is required edging?
What labour cost for small kitchen  maybe 2 meters required across 3 pieces.
+Kitchen sink+taps
thanks

Try a local search for a worktop company, you'll be amazed how many you find hidden in the back of an industrial estate.
You get so much choice in these places and you can often haggle the price. You can choose the worktop, upstands, spashbacks etc. Then they come out and measure it all up, template it to the nearest mm plus always have the correct drilling tools.

If you are paying someone to fit a worktop, and you have an angled joint, you want it properly mitred joint. Don't use those god awful plastic/aluminium joining strips. There is no excuse to use them.
Ugh, I hate them. I had two in my kitchen and they were very prominent, they were front and centre of the kitchen photo in the listing. When I got a fitter it to quote for a new kitchen, the first thing he did was point them out and say how horrible they were.

If you are paying a person you've never heard of and who's background you don't know to fit it you may find it costs more in the long run than getting someone with credibility locally.
Had a lovely odd job man fitted a worktop - 3 times because he couldn't cut the opening for the sink correctly. With no insurance or established business it's a risk.

A friend of mine approached a kitchen company to fit new worktops. She paid him quite a lot of money. The worktops arrived unexpectedly with a lone delivery driver at 8am and the driver wanted help unloading the two 4M long worktops which were VERY heavy.

The fitters did a good job with the mitre join but destroyed the sink in the process of removing it. The kitchen man got a replacement sink that looked like it cost about £35 and the fitters fitted it just with silicon - no clips to hold it close to worktop.

My friend told him she didn't like the sink or the way it had been fitted - he wanted her to pay him £250 for a new sink like her damaged one AND pay for fitting it!

    This is where I'm confused.
    New Kitchen sink+taps -Plumber
    New Kitchen work top-Joiner

Does this mean I'm contacting two separate companies/tradespeople.
Does Sink take priority before work top is replaced.

    thanks

This is why places like Wicks and B&Q are sucessful.
They sell and hire so you only have done company responsible. If you can contact them.

This is very important, does Wicks/B&Q-Accept Sink+Worktops rather than full Kitchen type job.

    thanks

No from Wickes unless ordering new Kitchen.
I think b+q could be similar though making request anyway.

    thanks
