EasyJet and EasyJet Car, high charge to change car when flight cancelled

Hello all
I’ve searched recent forum posts but not seen anything recent related to this.
I booked a return flight and then immediately after a hire car both with EasyJet back in autumn for this Easter to France. Several months later with no explanation they cancelled the outbound flight, forcing me to rebook a different flight the next day. This they allowed for free as you’d expect
But now when I’ve tried to change the car to pick it up a day later when the new flight arrives, they want several hundred quid, as the daily rate for the car is of course much higher than when I booked it in autumn. They count it as a fresh booking so you get what ever the current rate is. And all for a shorter rental period. If I just turn up with the booking voucher for the car a day late then it’s invalid. If anything I should be entitled to a saving on the car for using it for fewer days.
EasyJet Car claim there is nothing they can do (they’re “sorry” of course). Avis the end supplier won’t help. EasyJet airline themselves point you to their flight compensation scheme, this automatically rejects the claim as the flight change was more than 14 days before departure, so it isn’t covered by those rules.

I’ve had to stump up to make sure I get a car but plan to appeal and get the difference refunded. Anyone got any suggestions? As I see it, I booked both flight and car at the same time under the EasyJet website, so this should fall under the remit of a “package”. I.e if they change the flight they should also change at no cost to me the car hire. They even say on the website this scenario counts as an ATOL package should they go under. But there is zero way to speak to anyone with any ability to look at both flight and car together
Thanks
Chris

If you had booked both flight and car hire in one booking it would be a package.Booking separately the flight and then afterwards the car hire (within 24 hours) is
called a linked travel arrangement - and doesn’t provide the same protection as a package https://www.easyjet.com/en/policy/lta0 -
Thanks @onashoestring . I didn’t find that statement on their website myself
So basically I can whistle for the extra cash I’ve had to shell out? Any chance my travel insurance will pay out?
how do they get away with this poor treatment!0
