Is yours under the pavement outside and do you have tips to access it please?
If it's square cast iron you may need a flat-bladed screwdriver to open the lid; remove the polystyrene ,  probaly need a cloth to clear the glass and a torch.

You've got a couple of hours of daylight -  away you go.

Edit - and something to kneel on
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

The meter is in the pavement outside and is checked by them. I aim get access to it to double check.
If you log onto your account at Thames Water's website, you can submit a meter reading. They will then recalculate your bill. (At least, that's what happens when I do it!)

Yes, mine is, under a round black plastic cover.
I prise the cover off with a wide-bladed flat screwdriver. Under the cover you'll find a polystyrene block that helps prevent it freezing in winter. Lift that out. If the chamber is full of water, use a sponge to dry it out. At the bottom of the chamber will be your meter and stoptap.
