Anecdotally, I've been doing exactly this after joining the gym in December. We've been using 35p per day less water and 30p per day less gas (in comparison to what last year's usage would have cost at current prices). But family membership of David Lloyd is a bit more than that.

A single shower is all well and good but a twin one is more fun ;)  (I've not managed a shower with twins so can't say if that's better or not!)

Gerry1's calculation of 21p is fine for an instantaneous electric shower, but mixer ones tend to use more water and so take more energy.
My shower is rated at 10 litres / min. A 5-minute shower will use 50 litres of water. Heating 50 litres of water from 10C to 40C will take 1.75kWh.
    • Gas: 8p/kWh, shower costs 14p.
    • Oil or LPG: 10p/kWh, shower costs 17.5p.
    • E7 Electricity: 20p/kWh, shower costs 35p.
    • Standard rate leccy: 28p/kWh, shower costs 49p.

Water is pretty expensive. ~ £5 per m3 (1000l) including sewerage charge. Typical flow rate of 12l per minute so 60l for 5 minutes = 30p on top of the energy cost.
You're in a more expensive part of the country, it's closer to £2.50 per m3 here. And that includes sewerage. My 50 litre shower will cost 12.5p.

This is my first time posting so Im learning. However, my main theory by asking this is, is it cheaper to get a gym membership and shower at the gym as often/long as you like?
I think we've got showers at work, so if I was to do this there's no extra travel or membership costs involved ...

It's close enough for government work, as the idiom goes.
If you'd like to complicate it further I won't stand in your way.

The estimate will be different if the hot water is heated by gas of course. My shower this morning used about 2.2 kWh of gas (combi boiler) which at April price cap prices would cost around 16p. I didn't time my shower but I can believe it was in the region of 5 minutes.

These cost estimates exclude the water cost too.
Water is pretty expensive. ~ £5 per m3 (1000l) including sewerage charge. Typical flow rate of 12l per minute so 60l for 5 minutes = 30p on top of the energy cost.
No it's not - its £1.97 per m3 plus standing charge - so you can half your estimate of 30p per 5 minutes if not less

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

    £1.97 is really low!

Water alone is nearly that for many + wastewater at about 2/3 of that.

Costs vary between regions but I suspect you're forgetting the sewerage charge there. I pay £1.97 per m^3 like you but then there is an additional £1.57 per m^3 for the sewerage charge, making a total of £3.54 per m^3.
