"It depends"! Power rating of shower and how long you're in it!Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!1

3kW shower for 5 mins = 3000 x 5 /60 kWhr = 0.25 at 28p = 7 pence - more in october1

Whether you have an electric shower or water heated by gas, will make a big difference to the answer. Most electric showers are around 9 kW.2

My electric bills are, on average, £25pm. OH has a daily shower, I have a 20 minute one every week, in warmer weather I'll have about 3 showers a week, upto 60 minutes when I'm rinsing my hair dye out.
On top of that it's daily TV, PC, phone charging, kettle boiling, fridge, freezer, a couple of lamps and occasional use of two ceiling lights. A couple of washing machine uses and weekly vacuum.
I'm with one of the 'big 6' or whatever they're classed as.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
The estimate will be different if the hot water is heated by gas of course. My shower this morning used about 2.2 kWh of gas (combi boiler) which at April price cap prices would cost around 16p. I didn't time my shower but I can believe it was in the region of 5 minutes.
These cost estimates exclude the water cost too.1 -
Water is pretty expensive. ~ £5 per m3 (1000l) including sewerage charge. Typical flow rate of 12l per minute so 60l for 5 minutes = 30p on top of the energy cost.Ultrasonic said:The estimate will be different if the hot water is heated by gas of course. This is my first time posting so Im learning. However, my main theory by asking this is, is it cheaper to get a gym membership and shower at the gym as often/long as you like?

It obviously depends on how much the gym membership costs, how many showers you want to take and if there are any costs involved in traveling to/from the gym. Whatever the cost, it would be a damn site less convenient though!Bakesx said:This is my first time posting so Im learning. It's unlikely to be *cheaper* but it definitely offsets some of the cost. At ~ 50p per shower you might conceivably save £30 per month from a joint membership if you went every day and never showered at home.Bakesx said:This is my first time posting so Im learning.
