Do you qualify for EDF's Priority Services Register? Have a look at the help and grants that EDF and others may be able to offer if you're struggling to pay. There seem to be several loose ends with this case. Are you up to date with payments to E.On? It's probably best to be on E.On's Standard Variable Tariff (capped). E.On's Standard Variable Tariff rates from 1 April will be very similar to EDF's, so make sure you won't be paying any more.1

£500 debt is pretty low really and suppliers would never even mention the word "court proceedings " with such a low amount owed.
I think you allowed to switch on prepayment meters with a max of £250 ut otherwise suppliers do not allow customers to move supplier The last thing suppliers want to do is get expensive solicitors involved especially for such a low debt .The normal method for all debts is to fit a prepayment meter then set the meter to repay at a max of £16 a week .
Maybe if you refuse access to fit a prepay meter they would let you know the extra costs involved which would be a court warrant of access cost and a locksmith , totaling £250 approx., which is added to the total debt loaded on the prepayment meter.0
