I have been using Clarity as my non-Sterling spending credit card for years but don't think I have ever told them about travel plans. I would think that the fraud detection systems used by banks are sophisticated enough these days not to require it.

I have used this card for many years while abroad. It's the best card moneywise, but it's totally useless as they just suspend your card for no reason.
Australia - Halifax suspended my card (and my friends at the same time). I had a heated call for over 30 mins for them stating it was the vendors fault, utter rubbish!!!
New York - Text message & calls stating unusual activity. What is unusual about going on holiday?
New York - Suspended my wife's card for no reason!!
What is the point of having a credit card for travel when it just gets declined for using it? I thought the idea of using a credit card abroad was to make things easier, obviously not Halifax!!!
MSE, please look into this & stop rating it as a top credit card for abroad when it doesn't work.
    Ps. Santander worked fine.

I like my Halifax card when it works but it's useless if you don't have access to texts or phone when travelling. I usually buy an esim for data when travelling in Asia but this renders card useless when trying to use online to book tickets as it insists on texting a code. All my other cards allow me to authenticate via app or email. Why on earth doesn't Halifax allow this. Just had to q for 30 mins for train tickets as machines only accept local cards and Halifax is trying to rext me. Shopping for new card when I get home 😞
I’ve also started using eSIM when travelling, but my iPhone allows two SIM cards to be used concurrently, so I can retain my uk number whilst using data on my travel eSIM. I set a zero spend limit on my UK phone just in case.

I realise that not all phones allow two sims to work together, but newer models do.

Your point is perfectly valid, but I wanted to mention that for others it mightn’t be an issue.
  • My Clarity card was refused/declined in Gran Canaria a few years ago ,luckily i had a back up card ,when i got home went to our local Halifax who said strange has not happened to anybody else ,checked on here and several people were in the same boat ,Halifax said later it was a glitch in there system and now 100%.

This doesn't work if they want you to reply to a text as this isn't free of charge and this can't sent using a third party eSIM either.

With many providers you can't even send a single text at an inflated price (e.g. 49p) you have to activate their roaming pack for that whole day (e.g. £7.86 a day on Vodafone);  to say nothing about receiving or making roamed UK calls to their fraud department.
