Is her actual LOCATION pretty much spot on? And could she AFFORD to buy a more modern bungalow in the same area?0

Nice idea in theory, but in our area a 2 bed bungalow in good condition will cost considerably more than a 3 bed house in poor condition. It probably won't be practical to move until the house is fixed because of the reduced price as it is.

Even a one-bed. Even a flat - on the ground floor. Just any alternative to a 3-bed house in seemingly tatty condition.1 -
UPDATE - Yesterday, out of the blue, my Mum asked me to contact her preferred EA to value her house. As a smaller house in my road came on the market at the weekend, I arranged for her to view it yesterday afternoon and today she signed up to sell hers. I know it's going to be a long process, but overnight a huge weight seems to have been lifted from her shoulders!

Where does your brother come into this? Practically he is in a better position to help, including commissioning the repair work. He needs to do his bit, it can't be all take.joho said:Well there are a couple of options:
She moves somewhere smaller, newer, easier to maintain etc. as close to where she is as possible.
She moves in with us. But we are 200 miles away and she has my brother and 2 grandchildren very nearby. It would be a big wrench as she takes the grandkids to and from school etc. I don't think she could move in with them.
She gets some money to do the works, whether that be mortgage, loan or equity release.
Someone wins the lottery! No man is worth crawling on this earth.
