Ultrasonic said:Xbigman saidThat's a valid point. It comes down to each individual (or family) to decide what level of convenience they are prepared to pay for. Personally I find it highly convenient to keep my energy usage as low as possible and have more money in my pocket to spend. Others may prefer to spend their money differently.
I would say, is it really that inconvenient to flick a few switches when I go to bed? For me it isn't.

My house or my daughter and I fall into the "low user" for electricity at 1,800 units used a year which is what we averaged over the last 3 year's. Since late September I have turned things off at the wall saving me 280 units in 6 month's over the previous 3 year's averages.
Financially this has saved me £47.50 on my current tarriff or if I was on the April price cap £79..... But this isn't about money.
I estimate I'll save close to another 220 units over the following 6 months totalling 500 for the year, not bad for turning a washing machine toaster, microwave, TV, sky box a cd player and a amp off at the wall, when not at home, not in use or sleeping.
Now I know not everyone falls into the same boat as me with energy usage, some use less in a the same sized property and some use more.
But if we say a third of the total homes in the UK (9,000,000) could cut back 500 units a year (40 a month).
This is where my math can get flaky but ball park that's 4.5 billion kWh less used per year or if I'm not mistaken 4.5 million megawatts.
According some some online calculators that's 1,048,500,000 kg less of co2 pumped into our atmosphere.
Something to think about when your stuck in traffic with the engine running.3 -
