What's going on with P&O Ferries?

I'm not sure I want to listen to too many ministers expressing crocodile tears about employment law which allows these actions. That said, I understand that UK employment law does apply, they are not redundant, consultation processes have not been observed and the prospect of unfair dismissal decisions is strong. They wouldn't allow such actions in the US, and I can't imagine Brittany ferries ever replacing their staff with cheaper overseas staff, whether from legal action or long term industrial action.Given the strategic importance of the ferry links to the UK you'd have thought that there might be some plans for disruptions such as bankruptcy, although the experience of Grayling contracting with a paper company with no ships doesn't fill one with much confidence.1

Left not knowing what to do. Daughter and friend were due to go on P & O ferry Hull - Rotterdam, to visit Amsterdam at end of the month as treat for her 19th birthday. If running we need to sort the girls out with covid tests so they can go but might be throwing more money after bad, if things get cancelled. We hadn't taken holiday insurance out at the time we booked - our fault.0

Surely this has only happened because the British staff were overpaid. We need to align our costs with global standards if our businesses are to become world class. Brexit should mean that all businesses are free to do this, and all of us are free to buy shares in the companies that benefit from a reduction in costs.

According to Johnson, Sunak et al, Brexit was supposed to lead to a 'high wage economy' not to lower wages...

Didn't Reagan sack all the air traffic controllers when they went on strike in the early 80's?2 -
I can't blame any of the employees facing losing their jobs for staging a protest. Imagine getting a message like that contrary to the laws of the land in which they live (no matter where the ships are registered) and then being faced with police ready to arrest anyone who says boo! Those who aren't on board currently have possessions which they have been told they are not allowed to collect so those who are on board are facing criminal charges for taking a stand.
There should be a law against being greedy and the culprits (aka those in charge of P&O) should be thrown in jail or out of the country without the benefit of taking their possessions!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. That sounds like communism!
