Confused BT

Options
We are tied into contract till Nov.  We have FIBRE 2  and land line package BT have said we are having a digital phone through the Internet.   Have been on the site and they are offering new customers this for £40.  Can they charge me for a landlines if I will be using a digital phone.

The fact that the phone will now be provided via the internet doesn't mean that the fibre or copper bit is now free.

How do you think you get the service to your house - whether it be fibre or a copper pair it still has to be installed and maintained..

The physical connection is the landline.  It doesn't matter if it is used for voice, internet, a mixture of the two.  You have a landline.  It has to to paid for.  All phone connections are going digital in the next few years.
  • I was converted to digital voice a month ago, several letters/postcards/texts in the preceding weeks to welcome me to the new world of DV. Even scored a shiny new DV handset for free. All switched over fine.

Last week got the first postcard advising me that I'm about to be converted to DV. Been followed up by a letter and a text.

Haven't bothered to tell BT that it's already been done. Figure that the worst that can happen is they convert me again or cut off the (unused) landline completely. Might even score another handset, got to be worth a couple of quid on eBay?

You aren't a new customer, I'm not sure you have much option for price haggling with 8 months to go on your contract.

What makes you think that you are to be charged any extra? Have BT said this? Changing over to digital voice from analog (and getting a new handset if you want one) is done at zero cost to the customer.
