New online security checks - Lloyds, Tesco, Sainsburys

Is anyone else having great difficulty with the new online security checks? Yesterday I had to complete six different checks for three online orders with two companies – Tesco and Sainsburys. They took up to half an hour per check as once the transaction is denied you have to wait for a message merely stating that you ‘will receive’ another message, then when that turns up you reply YES, it was you making the transaction, then you wait another ten minutes before you can try the transaction again. Try doing this with supermarket shopping when you’re editing the basket multiple times before the 11:45 deadline!
I’m with Lloyds and first I
was just trying to book a future Tesco slot which was only a £5 basket as a
reservation (which shouldn’t be included in the checks anyway as far as I can
see?). Another was with Sainsburys for an existing order which was at that
point (not final) at about £120 and I managed to get it through about 6pm (got
the Lloyds texts and the email from Sainsburys). Then when I went to edit it down
to around £80 it just kept rejecting the transaction, but I wasnt receiving any
requests for confirmation from Lloyds so couldn’t do anything. I tried for over
two hours so called Lloyds customer services who said it was probably because Sainsburys
hadn’t signed up to the service! Unlikely! A business that size and my transaction
at 6pm went through! So this morning I’ve received £120 of shopping when I only
wanted £80.
Anyone else experiencing this? How to get around it?

Yes, others are reporting similar. See e.g. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6341369/santander-payment-authentication-changes/p1

I've been using Chase for most of my spending over the past ~6 months. They send a push notification in the app, which is a much better solution and I've had no issues authorising transactions.

The tesco reserve a slot requires a authorisation so requires the new security. As does any update of a basket.Life in the slow lane0

Ive not had to authorise by phone/card in the Sainsburys version at all, not even for booking a slot. Tesco require CVV for booking a slot and for any increase in value of the basket, if you are removing items from the basket & the new bill is less you dont need CVV. And Ive never had to authorise by phone at all.

Same for your Tesco purchases. Only before it was all in the background.
New regulations have just come into force which means more security on online purchases.Life in the slow lane0 -
OK well Ive just successfully booked both new Tesco and Sainsburys delivery slots to test it.Tesco just asked for the security code on the back of my card (Mastercard), Sainsburys asked for nothing. Both remember my card number as I use them frequently.
I am using Firefox 98.0.1 on OSX 10.14.6.
Neither asked for extra ID today.

Using the Lloyds app ?Bought something on line the other day, on screen message to open app and authorise payment, all done in seconds. No reliance on the vagaries of text messaging.

This is why we left the EU, pointless bureaucracy.
Unfortunately, we haven't got around to removing it what with COVID, Boris's parties and a pointless war in <insert place here.>0 -
