Which boiler?

Hi,
we have a 1980s oil fired boiler which is currently using approx 500 litres a month, which is a lot for a 3 bedroom bungalow.
Obviously with increasing oil costs this is becoming increasingly expensive so we're looking at replacing it.
But is there a better option than oil? We don't have main gas as we're rural.
Thanks

Air source heat pump but they are mega expensive even with the grants. The downside is they are also not as economical as people say as to get proper heat out of them you need to ramp up the power which costs a lot more in elcetricity so defeats the purpose of why you buy it in the first place.

But at 500  litres month with the price just now is costing a fortune.

Ground source heat pump, but similar story to the air sourse cost to install wise.

But for me the best alternative out in the sticks would be bio mass boilers. Again on the expensive side to install but fuel is cheaper as it burns anything. The wood pellets you can buy but if you have a source for collecting wood where you are the cost is zero.

You can also get Electric central heating but using electric to produce heat cant be cheap.

Is that level of usage normal or has it increased recently?

How well insulated is the bungalow?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Yep it's been petty much that for the 7 years we have lived here.
The loft is insulated, the walls are solid stone, and only 1 window is double glazed - 12 are not.

    12 single glazed windows?!
You'd be daft to spend your money on any alternative heat source before getting those windows double glazed.

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Cost of double glazing: 7-10k. Cost of boiler: free with grant - in fact the grant puts us into profit by several £k. Daft?
(We will also be looking at double glazing, but that isn't the question here)
