Same as insurance. Increase and often people renew without challenging.

I thought that practice had now been banned, and existing customers must now be offered the same deals as new customers?
IIRC it only applies to motor and home insurance. Breakdown insurance is not covered, along with plenty of other types of insurance.
Fair point ... though I read the post I had quoted as referring to Motor insurance (given that this is the Motoring board). ;)

I had an email today from Dynamo Recovery telling me in line with the T&C's the Rpi rise will introduced but i will be discounted from £4.69 to £3.25, i didn't realise that 6months in of a 12months  contract that there would be a payment required. For some reason i know that phone and broadband companies do this, but not a breakdown policy? Pretty sure home insurance don't do this practice? Has anyone else had this happen?

I don't think you will get very far if you try and barter as they certainly won't accept payment in anything other than currency ;)

Somehow I've got them to work out some deal where they hold the price for 2 years (so one renewal is the same price as this time), then it doubles, and I have to phone and negotiate it back down to about a 25% rise which they hold for 2 years and so on.

I think this is my 5th year playing this game (hope it isn't the 6th or I have to do it again next January)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • I haven’t had AA breakdown cover for a number of years, but when I did buy it, I always used to purchase it using an annual direct debit payment rather than using a card, this way it was much easier for me to just cancel the DD, as they always set up an Continuous Payment Authority when paying with a card.
Its best to actually alternate between the AA & the RAC each year, using Quidco or Topcashback for that extra saving.
