AA Renewal Scam/Con

Just received my AA Breakdown cover renewal.
I Quote :
"Congratulations, you're moving up to Silver Membership for free"
My initial though was "Great - better deal - same price!
Letter went on to say it would auto-renew on 14th April 2022
Being a bit suspicious I tuned the page and found that my "upgrade to Silver Membership FOR FREE" was going to cost an additional £104!!
Jumping from £75 to £179!!
It's probably cleverly worded, but anyone looking at it would think great! - and not even turn the page...
What a scam - I'm thinking of reporting them to Trading Standards.
In the meantime I'm going to cancel the membership!

..every year the AA try and increase my premium by a silly amount, every year I have to call them and say I am leaving, and every year they drop the annual fee back down to what it was.A real "PITA", but it seems to be the way they operate, and given all the bad reviews about the RAC I will stay with them until such time that they won't reduce the annual increase rip off....."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0

Every year at renewal the cost increases. I phone the AA and say it's too expensive, I need it cheaper. Every year they reduce the cost to the previous year. No haggling necessary.0

I sorted that issue, I ring up 11 months in and say cancel it.
Its a family membership, So next year the wife and then son etc.
We take out the third off offer and pre date when it comes into force.
Took it out in early June for 1st August start date.
Last year we got £100 Quidco and full AA cover, just no European cover as not needed.
Worked out £27.50 each.
Need it renewed August this year so will be on the hunt for the third off.0 -
This year, my quote renewal went up by 98% and my online request to remove auto-renew "could not be procesed" - phoned them and auto-renew is removed and new quote is now 'only' up by 20%. Have left it and will see what happens. Whilst the comapny practices are sketchy, the call centre people seem like humans.

Same here the premium seems to double and every year we have to phone to get it reduced. We always get exactly the same comment about being gold or platinum members or something and they don't want to lose us and just drop it down to a more moderate increase.I assume as a policy it must work and perhaps some people just pay up regardless.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Same as insurance. Increase and often people renew without challenging.
Every year I question the increase and do move if they don't meet my expectations.0 -
I'm surprised so many people still pay AA prices for service that's on a par (and sometimes worse) than the value operators. I had one call-out in the last year after hitting a pot hole and jumping up and down on the wheel wrench wasn't removing a recently fitted wheel. My annual premium was less than £30. I had a sparkly new recovery truck and very friendly driver to my location just off Trafalgar square in Central London in 45 minutes. I'm not sure the AA would have been any quicker for the extra outlay. I understand that it's a 'trusted brand'- but that was then - when people and business cared. These days it's all about profit and bottom line...0
