Car Hire, Greece

Going to Greece (Preveza Aktion) this August and wondering if I am missing something obvious (?).
Whichever site I use, car hire is coming in at appx £600 plus for 11 days. Is this normal for Greece!? Or are there much cheaper local operators?
Always used to fly to Spain and use Goldcar, was cheap as chips. Maybe we have left it too late (and usually flew in July)!
