I will be moving into another rented place 01 Apr and as such need advice on what to do with the gas and electricity.

I am currently on a fixed rate with EDF, fixed until June 2023.  The property we are moving into is currently provided by Bulb.

EDF are telling me to wait until 14 days prior to the move, but when I move will this mean a new tariff and  contract?

What's the current advice about moving from a Government controlled energy company?

Cheers

Pete

When you move you will be supplied by whoever supplies the new property.

When you move a) ring EDF re your old place and give them meter reads.

at your new place  ring Bulb , give them meter reads. You will be on Bulbs Standard tariff -   nothing else to be done in the short term
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If you agree a contract for EDF to take over your new place you can take your tariff with you. Mention it when you call them about the change of tenancy but think it will only work if you speak to them

Do note that this does not affect the obligation to register with the existing provider at the new property before switching back to EDF
EDF may or may not be willing to honour the existing tariff, it certainly can't hurt to ask...

That I think is more theory in practise -  as suppliers are loosing money with every customer why continue with a money looser.

We had a couple of posters recently with Bulb  - one who was expecting the transfer and one who was told by Bulb " no way"
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

To whatever tariff you are on when you leave your old property

12 months ago that may have been true but that's not what the EDF website says today

"We've made it easy to move home with EDF. Close your account in few simple steps – and see if you can find an energy deal for your new home."

Has anyone on this forum transferred an existing tariff  in recent weeks ?

Similarly this bit on their website references getting a 'new deal' not keeping the one you have...
Still can't hurt to ask, but I'll be surprised if they are willing to honour an existing fix if the tariff is not still open to new customers...
