Talk Talk contract

We have been with talk talk for years a while ago they increased our charge to £22.50, unfortunately, that was agreed without my say. I received an email saying as of the 1st of April it is going up another £2.50!
I checked the comparison and for the same package Fibre 35 it says existing customers £22 for a 18 month contract?
I know for a fact that our internet usage is very low, we do not use the phone much and always pay our bill on time, I feel like they are trying to take advantage that they spoke to an old person on the phone that just agreed on a massive price increase because we are already paying 50p above what the package already is and have just had notification of a further £2.05 increase? Given that she agreed to this Fibre 35 package without asking me and they have given notification to increase the fee can I sign up for the same Fibre 35 package at £22 for 18 months as it says for existing customers and we can leave the package if we are not happy with the increase.....but its the same package?
Just seems utterly ridiculous to me that we have such low usage and yet they are taking advantage that she will agree to any amount! I should have put the account in my name!!!

If you recontract at a lower price whilst still in your fixed term there will likely be a £30 admin fee.
The price rises last year were imposed, you did not have to agree so there is some confusion there.
Those mid contract rises gave you a 30 day window to leave without penalty as per the Ts and Cs so you could have voted with your feet or as I did, called and had a non-confrontational moan and got Fibre 35 at £20 for 18 months.
The latest rise notified for April 2022 is the previous December CPI + 3.7% adjustment that was incorporated into the Ts and Cs so you are obliged to pay it and there is no option to leave without penalty.
Your rise is £2.05 (+9.1%) which you correctly typed the second time you mentioned it.
Having the account in your name would not any difference about the increase, however the account holder can add you as a nominated user so you can haggle in future.0 -
You can find the form for appointing a nominated user on a TalkTalk account here0

When a contract is changed you will get an email or letter.
If you have done it on the phone, the agent is obliged to read the contract back and refer you to the website for the Ts and Cs.
It's at this point that many people turn off their listening ears, all they hear is the price !0 -
Well, we are talking about an old lady who is starting to get forgetful, unfortunately, but apparently, our contract ends on the 25/7/22 and when I click through the offer to my account it goes up in price even though I have no need for broadband that fast and do not use a lot!I do not like changing providers because just like with smart readers every time they send you a new hub and cables and the old ones probably all get sent to the rubbish tip, the existing customers have to pay higher prices for them to be able to do this and it's all just so wasteful! I wish someone would do something about the current system that is less destructive to the environment! But sadly I will be giving another company a try when our contract ends. Thank you for your help!0

Thank you for your help! There is nothing to stop you buying your own router and setting it up.Then when you change provider all you do is change fred@isp1 as the username/password in the router to barney@isp2 and it carries on working and there is no need to do anything else.Of course if the provider insists on sending you a router, there's usually no obligation to use it (Plusnet are sending me a Hub Two to replace an "existing" Hub One that I don't even have, which shows how much they know).0
