The Amazon website states: "We will keep you updated with further information on this page as it becomes available."

That's when information becomes available; they're not promising a new card. The 'information' could be simply that there's no plans for a further co-branded credit card, or that they have a deal with some other provider (they occasionally plug Ocean credit cards, for example).

At the bottom of the page it states:

Get rewarded when you spend with our brand-new credit card
We’ll be launching a brand-new Amazon-branded credit card that rewards you every time you spend. We’ll be in touch with more details on the new card so customers can stay up to date and sign up for exclusive early access.”

Ah yes, that is a little more emphatic that one is happening, thanks for the correction. Hopefully it'll be a stronger offer than the previous one on the 'everywhere else' rate.

This came up in the John Lewis thread quite a bit.
The customer book belongs to NewDay, not Amazon. Customers don't follow co-brands around wholesale from lender to lender for all sorts of reasons; there's literally no precedent for it.
So far as I can see NewDay are offering a path forward for existing cardholders to keep their existing accounts open (without Amazon branding), which is as much as might be expected.
This is all quite apart from the fact that no new (personal) Amazon credit card is known of yet, which would obviously makes a 'smooth' transition impossible if there even was such a thing!
I get why newday might own the customer lists, but wasn’t the card advertised on the Amazon site originally? Ive had it a long time, so memory is a bit hazy, but I can recall being surprised when I saw the newday name on the online portal instead of it being amazon. I always assumed the newday company was ultimately owned by amazon. They seem to own everything these days.

Of course it was on their site. Most co-brands will advertise cards which bear their branding. Asda push their Jaja co-brand product at you whenever you use their reward app currently. It doesn't mean they own it, just that they are financially incentivised to do so.

Ultimately the credit agreement is always between the consumer and the lender, and Amazon are not a lender.

Points will be credited to the penny - so don't worry if you've got 993 points - you'll still get a voucher for £9.93.
