It’s the same for Barclaycard and also Barclays
It's the same for all debit and credit cards as it is a requirement for all providers in the UK, as part of their FCA licence. They were originally meant to comply by September 14 2021 but because of Covid were granted a 6 month extension - meaning they now have to comply by March 14 2022. Retailers would have been informed ages ago about the forthcoming change.

Yes I’m well aware that it’s for all U.K. debit and credit cards and that the FCA gave an extension to the the regulations during covid.

I guess people are more aware of it now as banks and credit card providers have been sending emails about the changes in the last week.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
  • We have had this issue today - My Wife using our Barclaycard paying for a Tesco shop
    Yep that's right, Tesco
Big player, you would think they would have their act together
Tesco have admitted it is their issue and they are working on it (they have had YEARS to sort this out)
    They cannot give a timescale
They cannot inform us of when it is fixed.......
    ....bet you can't guess why?

..because it would mean recognising us as a Barclaycard user which is against GDPR !!!!!

We have no hope with all of this until those in authority are banged to rights over such incompetence

I had this yesterday with Sainsburys and Tesco (Lloyds bank). First tried to reserve a future slot for Tesco which cost £5 (so shouldnt be required anyway).

Second one, I sent a transaction to Sainsburys for around £120 through which was accepted around 6pm but wasnt my final order. At that point it was taking about half an hour for the transaction to go through, as first it would be declined, then a wait of about 10 minutes for a text saying merely that I 'will receive a text' to confirm. Ten minutes later that text turns up, I reply 'Yes', then it's another ten minute wait before I could retry the transaction.

However after the 6pm transaction I still wanted to edit my basket, down to about £80, the transaction was declined again but from then on I couldnt get any more text requests to confirm (or not) that it was me doing the transaction. I called customer services who just said that the company (Sainsburys?!?!) 'may not have signed up' to the system yet!

So this morning I've received £120 of shopping as it was just refusing to let me remove £40 of goods from the basket! Ludicrous to have to be approved to not-spend £40!

Overall six transactions blocked yesterday for 3 orders with two companies.

Considering getting a Tesco/Sainsburys credit card instead, would that be easier for grocery shopping?

I share your pain NickJG, I'm sorry you've had similar trouble, and with Tesco and Sainsburys too
You can't protect people (companies) from their bad behaviour but you can refuse to contribute to it

They have had many YEARS to sort this and the FCA have been leanient in delaying deadlines because of covid

it is not like they are small companies that would struggle to implement the changes

I've just had problems placing an online order and paying with my Santander debit card. I was asked to authorise the payment via the app, got refused twice even though I keyed in the correct passcode.  Santander didn't want to play. Never tried the OTP thing which was an alternative, turned to my First Direct card which was accepted straight off no extra authorisation required.
It's the first time I've tried a card payment online with Santander. Used it only a few times (new account) for groceries (in-store) and to pay for a meal or at the ATM for cash so it's not like it's a first transaction.
  • This is an absolute nightmare. I've been unable to make transactions at, among others, John Lewis, L'Occitane and the National Lottery. I've tried phoning but have had to abandon several attempts after waiting for an age, they plead for customers to avail themselves of online help but the chatbot is worse than useless.
