The chargeback is based on the fact they didn’t have my permission to take funds

Is your husband going to pay the difference on his card if you are successful with the chargeback? If not, how are you going to return the oil?

That's a stretch given that you needed the oil and your husband agreed to buy it.  If you're somehow successful with the chargeback, you'll either have to return the oil or pay them for it with a card payment you do authorise.

I plan to refuse to pay the difference if the charge back is successful as the company are in breach of contract and I’ve spoken to consumer rights who have looked into it and said they are not allowed to change the agreement

In which case, put some money aside in case the supplier pursues the debt through small claims court.   I don't think it's as clear cut as you think.

Who is this "consumer rights" you've spoken to in the last two hours, outside business hours?  Don't get suckered by some scammer telling you what you want to hear.

Thank you for your advise but I am not going to worry myself about them coming back with anything - the terms and conditions are perfectly clear and consumer rights are the leading consumer care team in the uk - they have a full legal team who are fully behind us - that’s the end of the matter on this forum

That's quite impressive.  You had no idea what to do at 11.22am and by 3pm you have a full legal team working for you, completely free of charge, who are going to solve your problem.  Amazing.

But you had time to come on at 5.40ish to tell us you couldn't find anything relevant in the terms and conditions, despite this free legal team you've engaged having solved your problem at 3pm.

You can see why I'm sceptical.  Your timeline is somewhat implausible and you clearly do have spare time to have spent all day sorting this out.   By all means challenge the supplier because they've not behaved correctly with the pricing or the card tactics, but if you're making stuff up just to score points on an anonymous forum, that's not helping your case. If you do still have a problem and the chargeback doesn't work or is challenged and reversed, write to the supplier setting out the resolution you want.
  • this is still an interesting insight into how BoilerJuice may operate.
I've noticed that they have no availability when prices suddenly rise. I always assumed they were selling spare capacity that suppliers were happy to offload but maybe they make offer a price based on what suppliers are offering and then try to purchase from that supplier at the point of purchase (any maybe in this instance the deal can't be met due to the time delay in making the contract

I checked a while back and they were offering £1.20 a litre whereas the supplier websites were offering 80p.
In other times they have been cheaper than suppliers and been very useful in getting the lowest price
