Good morning
Another sleepless night🥱, never mind having my hair done this morning that always cheers me up. Will go to see my Mother then pop to B&* to see if they've got some compost in. More of my seeds are starting to grow always makes me smile😊
I've got plenty of housework and gardening to choose from but I think I may retire to bed for a nap this afternoon😴
Have as good a day as you can🌻14 -
Good Morning all and Happy Birthday to those celebrating today ,my eldest granddadughter Katie being one of them.I can't believe she's 29, and a Mum of two herself. Its seems only five minutes ago she hurtled into the world yelling at the top of her voice (a very vocal baby
)
Just had a text from my grandson Ben in north London suggesting I go out to Russia and give Putin
'a good Nanny talking to ' that would sort his nonsense out our Ben thinks .
He said he needs some one to stand up to him and tell him how silly he is beingI think it will take more than a little old lady from Kent giving him an icy stare
Ben said "Well you kept us four boys on the straight and narrow Nanny, and wouldn't take any nonsense from us growing up" Bless him I don't think my peace keeping efforts would change Putins mind about bombing innocent people
Scarlett, I loved my time in the north. For several years a friend and I used to have a week away somewhere. Her husband was in the airline business and was frequently away abroad, so every spring she would get the map out shut her eyes wave her hand around and where her finger landed we would go for a week.
We would book a cottage and off we would go exploring our lovely country . We went to Warickshire, Staffordshire , Manchester, Birmingham, Norfolk, Hereford,Somerset,Derbyshire, etc and met some smashing people and saw some really lovely places.
We stayed in some unusual spots as well and researched the local areas to find different things to do. I have always been keen on seeing our own country and its never disappointed me yet.
When I used to go up to Durham with the children just driving over the 'tops' was amazing for the views. We actually went in February and saw High Force falls virtually frozen
We truly do have some gorgeous countryside .I always found the people in the north so friendly and welcoming, The food was fantastic as well
When we stayed in Leek in Staffordshire there was a small market in the town and one of the stalls sold the most amazing ham ,cut straight from the bone and tasting as ham used to taste like ,not the plstic stuff from the supermarket.
So good that when we came home on the way before we left we went to the market and I bought two kilos of it and brought it home and portioned it up in my freezer. A great way to see our country and I have some amazing memories of the different spots. Loved Manchester, and Bury market, we don't have many markets left in the south anymore which is a shame as I really like them. Salford Quays and the art museum was brilliant. The Potteries I loved as well and brought a super teapot there to bring home. We have so much history in the UK and yet seem to take it for granted .The museum in Birmingham was terrific.
But then I'm not much of a beach person and just get bored sitting doing nothing I like to explore and see different things.
Well today is looking nice and bright already and the sun is up so I'd better get a wriggle on, sort out the dry washing from yesterday
Hope everyone has a good day and stays safe

Good morning, looks a little dull and gloomy outside, not been out to check temperature yet, I am a chilly mortal so like to know how many layers to dress in before I head into town.
Knit and Natter today, just did the natter last week, no-one minds, I really ought to do my injectable meds this evening, but have found that a knitting or cooking session leave my hands so painful which makes it hard, not a moan I am grateful for the company with the girls and for the NHS providing the treatment I need, need to organise myself better.
Curry Club Zoom tutorial was for a Chicken one pot Biryani, I don't cook along 'cos I couldn't keep up with them, but made it for tea yesterday and it was gorgeous, tutor is British born Indian Lady and she teaches us Indian family cooking, but healthily without masses of ghee or oil.
Wishing every one a good day. nmlc thank you for the new thread, hope work is better than you fear. Ruby sounds like a good wheeze offering the Wii. Gers good luck with all the scanning, such a worthwhile project. Scarlett so pleased that you both had a great time in Durham. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Lovely photos IZZY. To add to the memoirs of Co Durham, we used to go up and stay with Bob's cousin when the kids were younger. They lived in Stanley and then moved to Shottley Bridge. We did a lot of touring around the area way back then. Happy times and lovely memories.
My plans have changed today AGAIN! I am going out for tea (probably the carvery) with DD and the girls. My birthday meal out has taken some sorting this year as DD is working late shift both Saturday and Sunday. Plans keep getting scuppered and changed. I am now like the Queen with an unoffical birthday today as it's the only day none of them have clubs, dance etc. But the 2 younger ones are coming to stay over with me on Saturday night and we will have a little party at tea time!
Righto I have dilly dallied long enough and cleaning awaits. The sun was short lived it's now cloudy and cloud doesn't inspire you to tackle jobs like the sun does! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Thought I'd share with you a photo of one page of my DM's diary from 1946, just after the end of the war but when she was still not able to go home to Berlin. In fact, she never got to live there again after the war as her mother was stuck in what became East Germany. She handmade this tiny diary and stitched it together too. Monday 11 March was two days after her 18th birthday, the only thing I can make out is 'Päckchen v. Mutti' which translates as 'small packet from mother'.I won't get my new car until Monday which gives me time to clear out this one. It was ordered back in October so had a long wait for it.Izzy - lovely photos!

Morning everyone
Dad really enjoyed his birthday tea yesterday. Little one was very excited, especially for the chocolate cake! She and little nephew helped him blow his 5 candles out.
He had been out - to M and S for coffee, which was an achievement as he hadn't been out on his electric wheelchair since the beginning of December and was very nervous about using it again. my niece went too to help him navigate and he'd managed without bumping into anything - or anyone!
Eldest DD had phoned him on her lunch break, so he'd had a lovely day.
I was shattered when I got home just after 6 and ended up going to bed at 8pm! Last day at work today - I'm not going in tomorrow - feel that the 4 afternoons are enough for me at the minute.
Well I'm afraid I've forgotten what everyone else said - so I'll just wish you all a good day!
Gers pleased you enjoyed your trip.
take care everyone x15 -
Tried to make out what your DM was doing the day I was born GERS 12/3/1946 but cant make it out! That tiny diary is similar to the tiny hand made books the Bronte sisters made and wrote in. Must have needed lots of patience. You have some lovely things to remember your mum by Xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14

Morning all. It's actually sunny! Made it into town yesterday and did the DBS thing, now just have to wait for it to come back to say I'm not a serial killer or a secret assassin. Also got OH his new 40k book, he was well chuffed when he got home, ripped it out of the cellophane [ unnecessary packaging] and settled down to peruse rules for the rest of the night [wasn't much of it left, he doesn't get home till eleven but OK, we went to bed at two thirty]. I have nothing planned for today luckily, I got woken rudely by a text from the bank saying I'd spent some money at the DVLA. Panic ensued in an omg I've just woken up and I'm not compos mentis way because my car tax isn't due until May, thought I'd been hacked again. Turns out it was my sister from our joint account, phew, panic over. Still fuzzy headed now. So I will nap after. Supper last night was a bacon sarnie again, I must try and make something with veg tonight. Actualy, i think I'll get on with the freezer defrost, it's time...Might make a spinach bake thinking about it, it was really lovely at Christmas.YL, I am happy to report no drips yesterday...but I didn't have fried egg in the sarnie so that's probably why. Apparently you can get adult ones. I will investigate and let you know...
Izzy, beautiful pictures, the scenery is stunning. TA, i do like a carvery on the exremely odd occasion we have one, enjoy! Maddie, that sounds really cool and such a good way to reach more people. Sunflower, hope you catch some sleep soon. It's no fun being half awake all the time. Jackie, what a great idea for a holiday, I admire you, because you always find something to do or see rather thatn sitting lumpen somewhere and moaning [shades of my gran] Camelot, congratulations on a new greenhouse. I am envious
Gers, happy new car day and what a good idea for the soup. Never thought of that. And I wonder if there's some way for a computer programme to shrink the letters so the sense canbe made from it. Snoozer, same, that's what I told him too. I don't know where this idea comes from that people stand dreamily looking out while washing up. No, we are washing up. Glad your head is better. Ive finished my essay now so I bid you all as good a day as you deserve and you all deserve a good day..

Hello all, bit late today but my laptop has been either doing something in the background or I'm having a problem on MSE as I can only see half of some posts, weird.
We've had a change of plans for today as Dad missed his meds delivery yesterday so we'll go and collect that (there's nowhere to park near the pharmacy and a long walk for him from the shoppers car park ) then I'll call in the chip shop and get something for lunch. I told Dad everything that they do and then he decided he only wants chips anyway 🙄 He has a few diy problems for Mr Fix It to sort out and I'll have a look for the insurance policy that my grandmother took out while I'm there, hopefully there will be only 2 places it can be 🤞 as I don't feel like turning the whole house upside down.
Gers Glad to see you home safe and sound. Good news about the new car.
Sending healing vibes to the poorly ones and hugs to all in need.
Take care all.
nan xx

Change of plan re food. Found some ham stock and some very old liver, so liver and bacon it is, with extra to go back in the freezer and a lentil soup...OH will eat neither of those things but they'll be ready for me when he's lates again.
