Temporary car insurance

Options
My car insurance is due at the start of April but I return the leased car at the end of May and take on a new car.
Do I get an extension on the current insurance policy and start a new policy with the new car, or renew the policy for April and change the insured car during the policy?

You'll struggle to find an insurer that offers an extension option and given you are already bound to your current insurer you cannot do much about that now.

    Normal three options are:
    1) Get temp insurance and then an annual policy on your new car
    2) Get an annual policy, cancel it, get a new annual policy on your new car
    3) Get an annual policy and do a change of vehicle

1 is often the most expensive if you have the forethought to consider the potential costs of 2 and 3 when buying an annual policy

Personally, would probably by an annual policy now but factor in the cancellation costs in 2 months time when choosing... no point saving £2 on the annual premium if the cancellation fees are £100 more. Once you have the reg plate and firm delivery date you can the cost up if 2 or 3 will be cheaper

Someone else asked almost the same question earlier this morning - the comments in the following thread may assist the OP:

  • Many thanks for your help. I’ll get a new annual policy then either cancel early or change the car in policy, whichever is cheaper 👍
