Cheap short term car insurance

Options
Good morning,
My car insurance runs out 27th March. My new car on my husbands work scheme doesn’t arrive for another 3-4 weeks.

Can anyone recommend a company for short term cover please?
Quotes I’ve already got from Comparison sites are coming back around the £200 mark, it’s only £300 for a whole year on my current insurance!
I can’t be without the car as I need to get to work/ kids to school.

Thanks 😁

Would the new car be on an insurance you pay for?

If so then is is viable to insure your current car from 27th March and then change the details when the new car arrives.

Or check what fees might apply to that policy if it was taken out and cancelled after 1 month.

If the renewal for your current policy seems fair then renew and cancel when you no longer need it. Check the T&C but most providers will refund.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my insurance? - Which?

Well unless the new car is a performance car, I can't see the premiums going up by £200, so you're better off renewing or getting a new quote for what you have already and then changing at the appropriate time.

They still have to pay the comparison site £50 or more, same overhead fees etc... as a consequence short term insurance is vastly more expensive on a per day basis than long term/annual. As such if you need more than a few days it can often be cheaper to buy an annual policy and cancel early.

Make sure you understand the full cost of early termination though as depending how you are buying there may be multiple fees, a broker's loss of profit and potentially refunds are not pro-rata as some move to a short term rate for less than X days cover.
