Smart meters

I disagree, at least until we get proper ToU tariffs and then only for those who can flex their usage properly. Other than that it relies on the user changing their behaviour, which they could do without a smart meter.Verdigris said:the government claim that they will save us all money/energy is at best idiotic. To be fair, they've stopped that tack. The original idea was to appeal to people on a self-interest basis. They are now saying it helps to green up the grid. But, the current crisis notwithstanding, they can save you money, if used intelligently. A lot of money, potentially.0 -
at least until we get proper ToU tariffs and then only for those who can flex their usage properly. We have got TOU tariffs from more advanced suppliers, like Octopus, already. The reason E.on Next and EDF are adopting the Octopus Kraken system is so they can do similar to Octopus. It is the former Big-6's legacy IT systems that are preventing them at the moment.People adopting home batteries and EVs with V2G will rapidly change the energy scene.

It potentially will, but the reality is that is several years away for many, probably more than a decade for most, batteries take a lot of power shifting to break even, V2G shortens vehicle battery life and the biggest producer of electric cars (Tesla) does not allow it on their vehicles.Verdigris said:at least until we get proper ToU tariffs and then only for those who can flex their usage properly. We have got TOU tariffs from more advanced suppliers, like Octopus, already. I agree that there should and needs to be a shift, but I do not think it will happen quickly.0 -
I wonder when our tinfoil warrior is going to come up with his list of smart meter disbenefits?
