I get my gas from ExtraGas (who source it from Avanti and the other main suppliers).
I signed a 2 year contract with them last year which stated that the price could only increase by a maximum on 3.5p per litre every 6 months.
Now when I look at my account settings, I see that they applying a 22p per litre surcharge.
When I look at their contract, I see - buried in the small print - that they say that they "reserve the right to add a temporary surcharge to the price" if the price they pay for gas exceeds a certain amount.
Question - does this surcharge sound legal?
If the headline says that the price is fixed, it seems disengenuous (to say the least) if the small print says that they can increase the price.

Galling as it may be, it sounds perfectly legal to me. The small print forms part of the contract that you agreed to - as long as the stated conditions have been met, then they're within their rights to impose the surcharge as agreed. This is why one should always read a contract carefully - although, fair's fair, I agree that many people do not bother to read through all the small print. It's not exactly the most riveting of bedtime reading material1

Welcome to the wonderful world of LPG!
I'm not surprised to hear this. You will find that most (all?) of the major LPG suppliers have similar weasel words in the small print.
FYI - I've just filled up 1000 litres, still at 38ppl with my local independent (no contract).1
