Afternoon all (I started this at 11.50...),
Have had a busy morning so far - two loaves baked, three jars of pickled gherkins made, spinach wilted and currently freezing, some work done and currently playing the how long does it take to get through to the doctors surgery - so far, 43:30.... I only started at place no. 5 in the queue. I only want to book an appointment to see a nurse, but you can only book doctor appointments through the NHS app... as I only ever need to see a nurse, it drives me absolutely mad.
Would you believe it, Mr MV got in his car to come home last night and the car brought up (seemingly) the same fault as the one that has just been fixed. I don't think there are words to describe what we feel about this. A strongly worded email to the Audi dealership was sent last night and followed up with a call this morning. So far they have been suitably grovelly and Mr MV has taken the car over and been given a barge (A8) as a courtesy car - not ideal, but at least it's something to go away in, although imagine petrol consumption (finally got through to surgery - 54 minutes, can't get appt until 3rd Oct!) will be terrible. We are waiting to hear what they say when they plug it in - but Mr MV isn't convinced they'll do this today.... (I think they blimmin' well better do it today!).
I think, I'll head out after lunch - I need to get some chicken for the cats and drop a couple of bits off. Before then, I need to get the kitchen cleared up - have been waiting for dishwasher to finish, but it kept getting paused as I was using the hob and oven (so as to minimise grid usage). Will put some washing on too.
Got paid by Cambridge overnight, so Amex card paid off, money to Mr MV for supermarket delivery and a little bit shuffled to savings. Pleased with how low the cc bill was this month - the other one is looking pretty good too.

Have a lovely weekend - in spite of the car issues mind you, honestly, what a faff?! And yes, I’m very much inclined to agree with you that the dealership had best get their finger out of wherever it’s currently residing and get it plugged in and report back to you today!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks EH - the car is just unbelievable... And now is really not the best time to be looking at finance for a new one. The plan was to save for one once we'd got the mortgage money saved. But the way things are going we may have to think of something else. The problem with keeping mine instead is that it's not ULEZ compliant and Mr MV does need to go into the ULEZ sometimes for work (it's also 25 years old and not really a winter car - it gets very damp in the winter). We've not heard from the garage as yet....

Yes - it was the ULEZ thing that prompted us both having to change cars earlier than we ideally would have done a few years back as you may recall - where we park in London is within the original extension area (A406) and so well within the new area now - which was of course planned right back then, so the bullet was bitten. with hindsight I'm glad that I timed mine in particular as I did - I paid a fair market price for the car I bought at the time, and if I was to buy exactly the same car right now it would still cost me the same - where usually I'd have expected a significant drop over that timescale (4 years). I do still feel a bit narked that I had to get rid of the old one though!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hope car gets sorted. What a palaver.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!4 -
Afternoon all,
Thanks Watty. EH, I think you were wise to switch then - the car prices have definitely been a bit bonkers the last few years and the ULEZ expansion has definitely affected them around here.
I am writing from my luxury castle hotel (win). Had a fantastic time in Downing St on Saturday - stroked (and photographed) Larry, tour of No. 10 was fascinating, in-depth and extremely well done - covered present-day stuff, all the art and the history and architecture of the building. And by sheer fluke, as we were walking up some stairs (actually, not just any stairs, but the Hugh Grant Love Actually staircase) a door opened and a man started to come out - took one look at us (mostly me as I was right in front of the door) and quickly backed away and shut the door again.... it was none other than our (useless) leader! And I was the only one to see him (Mum caught a glimpse of some trousers)!
About to head for afternoon tea here. Hotel is beautiful, but food was lacking - very nice, but a bit too poncy. I don't expect to be hangry after my main course (where are the veg and the carbs??!). Ended up having cheese board for dessert as I knew it would fill me up.... and I *never* have cheese! Breakfast was better, but it's a bit 'quirky' (?) shall we say - staff are lovely but service is a bit lacking. I certainly wouldn't have been impressed if I was paying - dinner last night would have cost £82/head!
Have had a nice mooch around town and charity shops and the local hardware store this morning - bought a few bits that have been on the list for ages, so feeling very satisfied about that.

LOL at Rishi being less friendly than Larry - he's clearly not daft!
Interesting about the hotel - allowing that presumably as it hasn't cost you anything you'd be less inclined to be critical than someone who had, that really isn't great about the food, is it. At £82 a head value nobody should be leaving hungry!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Just caught up with your diary - amazing news on you now being MF
The win sounds great too! I used to do a lot of comping so I feel I do need to step it up - as always the more effort the more rewards
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
