Hi, i have a BA travel voucher and went to rebook flights. My voucher is for £450 , i saw the new flights online for £550 so i was prepapred to maybe even have to pay a bit more between fare difference and rebooking fees etc the price im being quoted is £576 to rebook. Has anyone any tips for not being ripped off ? I booked through a travel agent who says they go to BA for new flight prices. Dont really want to lose the credit but also see no point paying over the odds. Thank you!

What's stopping you from redeeming the £450 voucher directly against an online flight booking for £550 rather than using a travel agent?  Not sure I'm following your references to rebooking, with associated fees - aren't you effectively just making a new booking from scratch?

The original flight was booked through the travel agent so i need to rebook through them also. The original flight wasnt cancelled but due to covid i couldnt travel on it so i had to take the voucher. They then class it as a 'rebooking' for a new flight.

I should also add the 576 is on top of my 450 credit,  if anyone has had any luck using credits and not having to pay a lot more on top of the credit?

But why?  If you actually have a BA travel voucher in your possession then surely you're at liberty to use it as you see fit, or do you perhaps have some sort of restricted travel agent credit instead?

If you use an agent who's quoting excessive prices and don't believe you can go elsewhere, then I don't see what other options you have other than to negotiate hard with them, so your issue is with the agent rather than BA, i.e. if you're looking for others in the same boat you probably ought to be naming the agent rather than the airline?

The travel agent is e travel ireland. Its the same with any flight you ever book. If you book it through a 3rd party you cant go directly to the airline. I cant go to BA directly im afraid i know that for definite. If i could i would believe me.

If you did try to book directly with BA (or even another agent) would the cost be over £1000?  I know some airlines have increased their prices to make up for lost profits but not double usually.

I think what eskbanker was trying to establish is what voucher you hold.  Is it a 'Future Travel Voucher' issued by BA or another type of credit voucher issued by the agent e-travel?

If you have a BA FTV then like eskbanker, I am unsure why you could not just use that yourself online at www.ba.com.  It would be a new booking using the FTV, not a rebooking.

I have no access to the voucher as it is sitting with the travel agent. I phoned BA and they could see my original booking but they couldnt give me my voucher reference, i needed to go back to the online travel agent to get that as my booking originally went through them. I assume its a FTV but its sitting with the agent and its attached to my original booking that was placed on hold due to covid.
