Smart meter issues

For the past few years my SMETS1 meter has been dumb until I was moved to British Gas from neon reef then the smart meter sprung into life with totally inaccurate readings after many conversations they agreed to dumb the meter again however they are now saying this is no longer possible as the meter is sending readings which are over riding my readings the meter is currently at 19063 they have a smart reading of 08155.

The only option being offered is replacing the meter which may or may not resolve the issue as they will not guarantee that is will.

Just looking for advice on the best course of action as I really have no idea what to do this is my first smart meter it was in the property when I moved in just over 2 years ago I have no idea how they work I keep looking at worse case scenario's for each option ( I suffer from anxiety) This has really put me off smart meters and my trust in them.

I'd get it changed for a SMETS2. If the old one works (after a fashion) then the new one will.

Check the meter serial number, it sounds like they have a different meter attached to your account from the one you are reading...

BG use the R1 reading, not the Total Import reading. You need to press the menu button a few times to get to R1.

Edit: This is assuming a BG-fitted Landis and Gyr meter

I suspect your current meter has two or more registers, that one of them reads 08155 and that the total of all registers is 19063.

Replacing the meter will give you a new meter with a new zero reading.

British Gas sent an engineer In December to check the meter and even he did not have a clue why the readings were so different but the serial number is correct.

If the serial number is correct then it is most likely the register issue mentioned above.
If you have ever been on an Economy 7 tariff for example then you'll have readings in two registers, or if you were with BG back when they were doing the 'free weekends' as that also used two registers.
So check the R1 reading and see if that matches what BG are seeing...

When pressing number 6 the imperial R01 reading is inline with the reading british gas have
When pressing number 9 I get the readings I am using
Meter is new to me so unsure what tariffs the previous tenants were using the meter was on Utilita pay as you go when I moved in and there readings when I left in March 2020 to go to a new supplier was 12530 and this was also the last time up to now the smart features were working

If you log those readings, you should see over a couple of days that the R01 reading increments by the same amount as the reading you were using.
That proves that all of your use is being properly recorded on the R01 register.
Looks like you are fine and with no need to change the meter.
If you need to align your opening reading with BG with reality then you should just be able to deduct the current difference between the two readings from the opening reading you originally gave to BG.

That sounds like a Liberty Secure meter, rather than a Landis and Gyr, so not originally fitted by BG.
