I've seen a lot worse 2yr fixed recently.

You should have a 14 day cooling off period. You could and its your choice, choose the two year fixed and if Russian oil and gas are sanctioned, you'll be glad you did. Or cancel if you get cold feet within the 14 day period.

Its a gamble only you can take.

There are much worse fixed-rate deals on offer.
If you can afford the new rate and want the certainty of a two-year fix, then go for it.

If I had to choose I would sign up if I could afford it, the offered price is 21% above the April price cap which will cost you an extra £140 over six months, however with the current state of the market the October increase could be much more than the 21% with other retailers already offering fixed deals more than double your offer.

Whether the price falls next year is anybody's guess but I would prefer to be able to budget confidently and not have to worry about things outside my control, if all else fails and prices drop significantly a new switch and paying the exit fees (which are high) would have to be calculated, the cheap energy club would be your place to compare at that time.

Just my opinion trying to help in these difficult times

Many thanks have just fixed it
Have 14 days cooling off period and looks to be no exit fee
Gives me a safe option as current energy supply situation looks like getting worse

Thanks for the heads up about switching to another tariff with BG and no exit fee, I had read that but not registered the significance of that last sentence.

Why are some british gas customers been offered fixed tariffs and some are not? Were you sent this via email, via post or is it online? I have no option for fixed tariff and am with british gas

BG's marketing efforts move in mysterious ways.
There is currently no obligation on BG, or any other supplier, to offer all their tariffs to all their customers. (This will change in mid-April.)
