Tesco Bank have a Mastercard too ...
Sorted!  That'll do me.  Thank you very much for your help :)
Good choice. As a side benefit - if ever you fill up with fuel at Tesco filling stations, be sure to use your new credit card as the Clubcard as it'll earn 1 pt per £ rather than 1 pt per £2 - even if you don't then pay with it.

If you pay at pump, insert the Tesco Credit Card first then it'll ask if you'd like to pay with that card - press no and it'll let you put another card in.

If you pay at kiosk, just tell the assistant you'd like to use it as your Clubcard but use another card to pay.

Is this a common thing? Never come across this before

Well, I think it's pretty uncommon, that's why I closed my HSBC card. It was the only of my 7 credit cards that didn't allow me to pay with debit card from another bank. Okay, maybe with Nationwide it's a bit complicated, but it's still possible, as far as I know. HSBC is also the only bank who wanted to hard-search me for credit limit increase. No other bank does that, or at least none of the banks I have cards with.
Paying credit cards with debit cards isn't something that I've ever used.
Direct Debit, Faster Payment or Cash have all worked fine.

It's quite an important feature if you are fan of Halifax's Reward accounts :)

I'm not and that use case could end at any time as it's against their T&Cs

    No it isn't.

    • What kind of spending counts towards the offer?

There are a few payments which don’t count for Reward Extras offers:

      • When you take cash out of a cash machine, branch or Post Office counter.
      • When you make a money transfer to another account.

Any payments being queried or disputed won't count towards the £500 or £5,000. And we’ll only count payments that leave your account by the last day of the month.

But all purchases on your card count. This includes purchases you make online, in-store and abroad.

You can also use digital wallets, like Apple Pay, Google Pay or similar schemes, as long as they’re linked to your registered debit card.
